Sacramento Museum Day 2016

Leap Day Celebration
Monday, February 29 - 9 am to 4 pm
Celebrate Leap Day at the Sacramento Zoo! Enjoy Keeper Chats focused on the Zoo’s greatest leapers, visit EdZOOcation Stations and become a Zoo Parent with a great package deal on one of our featured leapers, the Coquerel’s Sifaka. Leap Day is also Gus the Green Tree Frog’s birthday! Sign his birthday card and take a picture with him as he makes guest appearances throughout the day.

Recycle Rummage Sale   
Saturday, April 2 - 9 am to 4 pm
Find great bargains on books, housewares, collectibles, jewelry and more at our annual rummage sale. Proceeds benefit conservation efforts here and around the world. Located in the Kampala Conference Center inside the Sacramento Zoo. Included with Zoo admission and part of the Earth Fest activities.

Earth Fest - It's a Party for the Planet!
Saturday, April 2 - 9 am to 4 pm
It’s a party for the planet! Learn how to protect and preserve the earth with environmental, wildlife and conservation organizations. During the day explore animal bio-artifacts; participate in storytelling and activities in the Discovery Room; come face-to-face with the outreach animals; or listen as keepers present enrichment talks in the afternoon. 

Girl Scout Badge Earning Days
Junior’s: Sunday, April 3 - 9 am to 12 pm
Brownie’s: Sunday, April 10 -  9 am to 12 pm
Daisy’s: Sunday, April 24 - 9 am to 12 pm
Spend a morning getting up close and personal with some of the Zoo’s animal ambassadors while enjoying fun filled presentations and activities. You’ll also be able to explore the entire zoo and complete your badge, try it, or journey!

3-Day Photography Workshop & Safari

Hone your photography skills with Mike's Camera staff during this three-day experience including an evening class session, a morning visit to the Zoo and an evening follow-up critique. 50% of your tuition benefits the Sacramento Zoo.

ZooZoom
Sunday, April 17 - 7 am to Noon
Join the stampede as thousands of runners raise funds to benefit the Zoo. Are you as fast as a hare or as slow as a tortoise? Find out on Sunday, April 17 at the 36th annual ZooZoom. There are options for everyone from a 5K to a 10K to the Saucony ‘Run for Good’, Kid’s Fun Runs.

Star Wars Day: May the Forest Be With You   
Saturday, April 30 - 9 am to 4 pm
Meet your favorite Star Wars characters without making a trip to a galaxy far, far away. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras and pose for free photos with the costumed characters from noon to 2 pm. Visitors will learn how animal adaptations and behaviors in our galaxy relate to the creatures from the Star Wars universe through stage shows, crafts and other activities. The animals will join in on the fun as they enjoy special Star Wars themed enrichment items throughout the day.

Senior Tea & Tours
Mondays, May 2, 9, 16 - 9:30 am to 12 pm
Have a pleasant cup of tea and a guided tour of the Sacramento Zoo! Designed especially for seniors ages 55 and over, your group will be met by Docents (volunteer educators) and will tour part of the zoo. During the tea break you'll be served lemonade, tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, breads and cookies.

Wine & Brew at the Zoo
Saturday, May 14 - 5:30 to 8:30 pm
Join your friends at Sacramento’s newest event – Wine and Brew at the Zoo! Enjoy samples of local wine and beer from some of your favorite wineries and breweries.  Take in the luscious green landscape of the Zoo, surrounded by exotic animals, during this exclusive after-hours event. Food is available for purchase from some of your favorite local food trucks. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

Stuffed Animal Veterinary Clinic
May Date TBD
Is your teddy bear feeling under the weather? Does your stuffed animal have a cut that needs fixing? We are here to help! A Stuffed Animal Veterinarian will assess the overall health of your stuffed animal and make a diagnosis based on the symptoms. Exams are just $3 per stuffed animal. Repairs with exam are $5 and stuffed animals adoptions with exam are $4. Proceeds benefit Greater Sac AAZK.

Visit the Zoo after everyone else has gone home. Bring your own dinner or stop by Kampala Cafe, we’ll also have unique activities and lots of fun. You can also support the local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers by purchasing a pre-made enrichment for one of the animals that evening.

During the summer months of June, July and August, we offer Family Overnight Safaris. This fun-filled educational evening will guide you through all that our nighttime Zoo has to offer. These camp-outs are designed for small groups and families of two or more people. This is a perfect opportunity to see animal behaviors you may not have seen before. Dinner and breakfast are provided!

Bring the entire family to enjoy all-you-can-eat Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream and Coca-Cola beverages at the 32nd Annual Ice Cream Safari. It's a brain-freezing good time from 4 to 8 pm. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

During the tea break you'll be treated to ice tea, lemonade, and water, plus 'tea sandwiches', salad and cookies. All Tea & Tours programs start at the front gate of the Zoo at 9:30 am and will last until about Noon..

Deaf Awareness Day
Saturday, September 17 - 9 am to 3 pm
Join us for a special day for our deaf and hard of hearing community sponsored by NorCal Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Zoo will have ASL interpreters on site for the event. There are limited facilities for service animals. Please call (916) 808-5888 in advance.

Red Panda Day
September Date TBD
Join us for an interactive and educational event developed to raise awareness about Red Panda conservation. Kids (and adults too!) can become “Red Panda Rangers” after stopping at the various Red Panda Stations and completing the Panda activities. If you became a ranger last year, complete this year’s activities to become a “Junior Forest Guardian!” Stop by to purchase raffle tickets for Red Panda themed artwork, décor, and other keepsakes. Proceeds benefit The Red Panda Network, a conservation group working directly with community-based organizations in Nepal.

Wild Affair
Saturday, October 1 - 5 to 10 pm
The Wild Affair fundraiser offers guests the chance to spend an enchanted evening behind the scenes at the Sacramento Zoo. This annual Gala event includes a delicious full-course gourmet dinner, followed by a silent and live auction with plenty of wine, spirits and endless hors d'oeuvres. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

Boo at the Zoo

Bring the family to the Zoo for a spook-tacular good time.  Play some ghoulish games, create creepy crafts and trick or treat around the lake. It’s a safe and fun Halloween at the Sacramento Zoo.  Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm both days.

Food Drive
November 1 to December 24 - 10 am to 4 pm
Bring a non-perishable food item when you visit the Zoo and receive $1 off your Zoo admission!  Food donations benefit the River City Food Bank. 

Member Appreciation Mornings
Saturdays, November 5, 12, 19, 26 -  9 to 10 am
Stroll around the Zoo before we open to the public on four consecutive Saturdays in November! Enjoy free rides on the Zoo Train and Conservation Carousel and a 20% discount in the Zoofari Market gift store until 10 am. Just show your membership card at the entrance.

Military Family Day
Friday, November 11 - 10 am to 4 pm
In appreciation for our troops, all military personnel, veterans and their families receive a 50% discount  on Zoo admission with a valid military identification card.

Holiday Magic
Saturday, December 10 - 10 am to 4 pm
Why should only humans receive gifts during the holidays?  It’s time for Holiday Magic—watch as the animals unwrap their holiday goodies! Please bring a nonperishable food item and receive $1 off your Sacramento Zoo admission.

AAZK Wreath Sale Fundraiser
Weekends, December 10  to 18 - 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
Celebrate the holiday season with Zoo-grown homemade wreaths! The local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers will be at the front of the Zoo during the December weekends selling beautiful wreaths for your home. Proceeds benefit Greater Sac AAZK. Also available at the Zoofari Market daily while supplies last.

PJ Party Christmas Eve
Saturday, December 24 - 10 am to 1:30 pm
Celebrate Christmas Eve at the Zoo, and you don't have to change out of your pajamas! That's right, admission is free and we will be in our best pjs. Join us! Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.
