Sacramento Museum Day 2015

I Heart Sacramento Zoo

Bring your valentine to a special I Heart Sacramento Zoo day organized by the Sacramento Zoo Teen volunteers. The event features valentine-themed animal enrichments, informative talks and activity tables – all included with general admission.

Texas Hold'em Showdown Poker Tournament   
Sunday, February 22 - 11 am
Ante up and claim your bragging rights at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg as you play your best hand of poker. Proceeds benefit the Biodiversity Center.

Recycle Rummage Sale   
Saturday, April 4 - 9 am to 4 pm
Find great bargains on books, housewares, collectibles, jewelry and more at our annual rummage sale. Proceeds benefit conservation efforts here and around the world. Located in the Kampala Conference Center inside the Sacramento Zoo. Included with Zoo admission and part of the Earth Fest activities.

Earth Fest - It's a Party for the Planet!
Saturday, April 4 - 9 am to 4 pm
It’s a party for the planet! Learn how to protect and preserve the earth with environmental, wildlife and conservation organizations. During the day explore animal bio-artifacts; participate in storytelling and activities in the Discovery Room; come face-to-face with the outreach animals; or listen as keepers present enrichment talks in the afternoon. 

Girl Scout Badge Earning Days
Daisy’s: Sunday, April 12 - 9 am to 12 pm
Brownie’s: Sunday, April 19 -  9 am to 12 pm
Junior’s: Sunday, April 26 - 9 am to 12 pm
Spend a morning getting up close and personal with some of the Zoo’s animal ambassadors while enjoying fun filled presentations and activities. You’ll also be able to explore the entire zoo and complete your badge, try it, or journey!

ZooZoom
Sunday, April 19 - 7 am to Noon
Join the stampede as thousands of runners raise funds to benefit the Zoo. Are you as fast as a hare or as slow as a tortoise? Find out on Sunday, April 19 at the 35th annual ZooZoom. There are options for everyone from a 5K to a 10K to the Saucony ‘Run for Good’, Kid’s Fun Runs.

Sacramento River Cats Zoo Night 
Saturday, April 25 - 7:05 pm
Watch the River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers AND support the Zoo by purchasing tickets through the Sacramento River Cats using promo code Sac Zoo. Players will wear special Snow Leopard jerseys to be auctioned to the highest bidder.

Where the Wild Kids Are

Visit the Sacramento Zoo for a day of art, music and dance during Where the Wild Kids Are. Kids will learn through interactive crafts, performances and much more family fun! 

Senior Tea & Tours
Mondays, May 4, 11, 18 - 9:30 am to 12 pm
Have a pleasant cup of tea and a guided tour of the Sacramento Zoo! Designed especially for seniors ages 55 and over, your group will be met by Docents (volunteer educators) and will tour part of the zoo. During the tea break you'll be served lemonade, tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, breads and cookies.

Swingin' Safari Golf Tournament
Friday, May 8 - 9 am
Come out swinging for the Zoo at the 14th annual Golf Tournament at Teal Bend Golf Club. Think you are a pretty good golfer? Join us for a swinging-good time for golf, food, prizes, auction and awards dinner! All proceeds benefit the Zoo.

Missing Orangutan Mothers (MoM’s) Day Book & Bake Sale
Sunday, May 10 - 10 am to 3 pm
Buy some delicous palm oil free baked goods, a good book and learn about how orangutans are excellent mothers. Find our table near the Orangutan exhibit. Purses for Primates will be at the front of the zoo selling gently used purses. All poceeds go to support Orangutan Outreach Missing Orangutan Mothers (MOM), an organization that aids orphaned orangutans in the wild.

Endangered Species Weekend

Owl Release
Thursday, May 28 - 7 pm
Land Park
We are partnering with Wildlife Care Association (WCA) in a truly unique fundraising experience. Each year WCA rehabilitates thousands of animals, releasing them back to the wild after their recovery. Come witness this spectacular release of rehabilitated owls as they take flight and continure their wild lives. To reserve a spot for $10 email Lori Tierney. Proceeds benefit the Wildlife Care Association.

Stuffed Animal Veterinary Clinic
Saturday, May 30 - 10 am to 2 pm
Is your teddy bear feeling under the weather? Does your stuffed animal have a cut that needs fixing? We are here to help! A Stuffed Animal Veterinarian will assess the overall health of your stuffed animal and make a diagnosis based on the symptoms. Exams are just $3 per stuffed animal. Repairs with exam are $5 and stuffed animals adoptions with exam are $4. Proceeds benefit Greater Sac AAZK.

Member Evening
Thursday, June 11 - 5:30 to 8:30 pm

Visit the Zoo after everyone else has gone home. Bring your own dinner or stop by Kampala Cafe, we’ll also have unique activities and lots of fun. You can also support the local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers by purchasing a pre-made enrichment for one of the animals that evening.

Family Overnight Safaris

During the summer months of June, July and August, we offer Family Overnight Safaris. This fun-filled educational evening will guide you through all that our nighttime Zoo has to offer. These camp-outs are designed for small groups and families of two or more people. This is a perfect opportunity to see animal behaviors you may not have seen before. Dinner and breakfast are provided!

Twilight Thursdays in June - Extended Hours
Thursday, June 18 - Open until 8 pm
Thursday, June 25 - Open until 8 pm
Enjoy those warm summer nights at the Zoo with extended hours on Twilight Thursdays. The Zoo is open from 9 am to 8 pm for your whole family to enjoy. Dinner special, live music and activities start at 5 pm. Regular daily admission rates apply.

King of Feasts - Food & Wine Luau
Saturday, June 20 - 6 to 9 pm
Enjoy this unique gourmet food and wine luau featuring live entertainment, Polynesian dancers, and a silent auction. Enjoy foods from dozens of the finest Sacramento area restaurants and bakeries. Wells Fargo Wednesdays
Wednesdays, July 15, 22, 29 - 9 am to 5 pm
Bring your kids to the Zoo for free on three Wednesdays in July thanks to Wells Fargo! Up to four kids, ages 2-11 will be admitted for free with a paid adult. Wells Fargo will offer kids one free ride ticket for either the train or carousel. Only July 29th, the famous Wells Fargo Stage Coach will be at the Zoo too!

Bingo Night - Florin Road Bingo
Tuesday, August 25 - 5 to 8:30 pm
Get ready for a fun night of bingo and have a blast raising funds for the Sacramento Zoo! Your ticket includes a delicious dinner, non-alcoholic drinks and eight rounds of bingo with the chance to win cash prizes. You can also imbibe at the no-host bar, enter the raffle for fabulous prizes and even meet some of the Zoo's Animal Ambassadors.

Senior Tea & Tours
Mondays, September 14 & 21 - 9:30 am to Noon
You'll hear about where we've been and where we're going. This program is for seniors only (ages 55 and over) on selected Mondays. Your group will be met by Docents (volunteer educators) and will tour part of the zoo. During the tea break you'll be treated to ice tea, lemonade, and water, plus 'tea sandwiches', salad and cookies. All Tea & Tours programs start at the front gate of the Zoo at 9:30 am and will last until about Noon..

Deaf Awareness Day
September Date & Time TBD
Join us for a special day for our deaf and hard of hearing community sponsored by NorCal Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Zoo will have ASL interpreters on site for the event. There are limited facilities for service animals. Please call (916) 808-5888 in advance.

Red Panda Day
September Date & Time TBD
Join us for an interactive and educational event developed to raise awareness about Red Panda conservation. Kids (and adults too!) can become “Red Panda Rangers” after stopping at the various Red Panda Stations and completing the Panda activities. If you became a ranger last year, complete this year’s activities to become a “Junior Forest Guardian!” Stop by to bid on Red Panda themed artwork, décor, and other keepsakes. Proceeds benefit The Red Panda Network, a conservation group working directly with community-based organizations in Nepal.

Wild Affair
Saturday, October 3 - 5 to 10 pm
The Wild Affair fundraiser offers guests the chance to spend an enchanted evening behind the scenes at the Sacramento Zoo. This annual Gala event includes a delicious full-course gourmet dinner, followed by a silent and live auction with plenty of wine, spirits and endless hors d'oeuvres. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

Boo at the Zoo
Friday & Saturday, October 30 & 31 - 5 to 8 pm
Bring the family to the Zoo for a spook-tacular good time.  Play some ghoulish games, create creepy crafts and trick or treat around the lake. It’s a safe and fun Halloween at the Sacramento Zoo.  Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm both days.

Food Drive
November 1 to December 24 - 10 am to 4 pm
Bring a non-perishable food item when you visit the Zoo and receive $1 off your Zoo admission!  Food donations benefit the River City Food Bank. 

Member Appreciation Mornings
Saturdays, November 7, 14, 21, 28 -  9 to 10 am
Stroll around the Zoo before we open to the public on four consecutive Saturdays in November! Enjoy free rides on the Zoo Train and Conservation Carousel and a 20% discount in the Zoofari Market gift store until 10 am. Just show your membership card at the entrance.

AAZK Wreath Sale Fundraiser

Celebrate the holiday season with Zoo-grown homemade wreaths! The local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers will be at the front of the Zoo during the December weekends selling beautiful wreaths for your home. Proceeds benefit Greater Sac AAZK.

PJ Party Christmas Eve
Thursday, December 24 - 10 am to 1:30 pm
Celebrate Christmas Eve at the Zoo, and you don't have to change out of your pajamas! That's right, admission is free and we will be in our best pjs. Join us! Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.
