Open since 1927, the Sacramento Zoo is home to over 140 native, exotic and endangered species and is one of over 200 accredited institutions of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Zoo is wholly managed by the Sacramento Zoological Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and provides an educational and recreational resource to the Sacramento Region.
Maintenance/Carpenter 2 - Full Time
Position Summary: Position reports to the Maintenance Manager. Performs activities related to the upkeep of structural and mechanical items i.e. carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling and electrical. Performs activities related to the upkeep of exhibits, zoo grounds, walks and public areas. This is a full time position with the Sacramento Zoological Society. Includes some nights, weekends and holidays.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Minor maintenance of heating and cooling units, electrical and plumbing systems
- Maintain and repair fencing
- Maintain vehicles
- Operate and maintain power tools
- The ability to draw and read plans as well as implement
- Layout and construct basic structures
- The ability understand and follow instructions
- Fulfill other jobs as directed
Qualifications: High School Graduate. Four year paid experience with facility maintenance or construction field. Knowledge of common practices regarding tools and/or materials used in facility maintenance and construction. The employees in this position must be able to drive for the Zoo; therefore must have and maintain a valid California driver’s license and be insurable within the Zoo’s insurance company standards.
Abilities: Understanding and ability to carry out oral and written instructions. Operate variety of zoo equipment and perform heavy manual labor.
