Sacramento Museum Day 2014

I Heart Sacramento Zoo

Bring your valentine to a special I Heart Sacramento Zoo day organized by the Sacramento Zoo Teen volunteers. The event features valentine-themed animal enrichments, informative talks and activity tables – all included with general admission.

Texas Hold'em Showdown Poker Tournament   
Sunday, February 23 - 11 am to 3 pm
Ante up and claim your bragging rights at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg as you play your best hand of poker. Proceeds benefit Reptile House renovations.

CJ the Sumatran Tiger's 1st Birthday     
Saturday, March 1 - 9 am to 4 pm
Join the celebration as CJ the Sumatran Tiger turns 1!  CJ will receive a birthday cake-shaped enrichment at noon while visitors watch and share their well wishes. Activities during the day will include signing CJ’s birthday card as well as tiger activities and conservation information.

Recycle Rummage Sale   
Saturday, April 5 - 9 am to 4 pm
Find great bargains on books, housewares, collectibles, jewelry and more at our annual rummage sale. Proceeds benefit conservation efforts here and around the world. Located in the Kampala Conference Center inside the Sacramento Zoo. Included with Zoo admission and part of the Earth Fest activities.

Earth Fest - It's a Party for the Planet!
Saturday, April 5 - 9 am to 4 pm
It’s a party for the planet! Learn how to protect and preserve the earth with environmental, wildlife and conservation organizations. During the day explore animal bio-artifacts; participate in storytelling and activities in the Discovery Room; come face-to-face with the outreach animals; or listen as keepers present enrichment talks in the afternoon.

ZooZoom
Sunday, April 13 - 7 am to Noon
Join the stampede as thousands of runners raise funds to benefit the Zoo. Are you as fast as a hare or as slow as a tortoise? Find out on Sunday, April 13 at the 34th annual ZooZoom. There are options for everyone from a 5K to a 10K to the Saucony ‘Run for Good’, Kid’s Fun Runs.

Where the Wild Kids Are
Saturday, May 3 - 9 am to 4 pm 
Visit the Sacramento Zoo for a day of art, music and dance during Where the Wild Kids Are. Kids will learn through interactive crafts, performances and much more family fun! 

Senior Tea & Tours
Mondays, May 5, 12, 19 - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Have a pleasant cup of tea and a guided tour of the Sacramento Zoo! Designed especially for seniors ages 55 and over, your group will be met by Docents (volunteer educators) and will tour part of the zoo. During the tea break you'll be served lemonade, tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, breads and cookies.

Missing Orangutan Mothers (MoM’s) Day Book & Bake Sale
Sunday, May 11 - 10 am to 3 pm
Buy some delicous palm oil free baked goods, a good book and learn about how orangutans are excellent mothers. Find our table near the Orangutan exhibit. Purses for Primates will be at the front of the zoo selling gently used purses. All poceeds go to support Orangutan Outreach Missing Orangutan Mothers (MOM), an organization that aids orphaned orangutans in the wild.

Swingin' Safari Golf Tournament
Monday, May 12 - 11:30 am
Come out swinging for the Zoo at the 13th annual Golf Tournament at El Macero Country Club. Think you are a pretty good golfer? Join us for a swinging-good time for golf, food, prizes and the wildest putting contest in the Sacramento area! All proceeds benefit the Zoo.

Zoo Parent & Volunteer Party
Saturday, May 17 - 5:30 to 8 pm

Stuffed Animal Veterinary Clinic, AAZK Fundraiser
Saturday, May 24 - 10 am to 2 pm
Does your stuffed animal need a checkup? Does it have a wound that needs to be sewn? Would you like to see what it takes to be a Zoo Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician? Veterinarians and Docents will be on hand to do exams for $3, repairs minor wounds including an exam for $5, and adoptions including exams for $4  on the Veterinary Hospital Lawn. All patients will receive a Health Certificate. Proceeds benefit the Sacramento Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers.

Family Overnight Safaris
Saturday, June 7 – 5:30 pm to 9 am

During the summer months of June, July and August, we offer Family Overnight Safaris. This fun-filled educational evening will guide you through all that our nighttime Zoo has to offer. These camp-outs are designed for small groups and families of two or more people. This is a perfect opportunity to see animal behaviors you may not have seen before. Dinner and breakfast are provided!

Member Evening
Thursday, June 12 - 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Visit the Zoo after everyone else has gone home. Bring your own dinner or stop by Kampala Cafe, we’ll also have unique activities and lots of fun. You can also support the local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers by purchasing a pre-made enrichment for one of the animals that evening.

Twilight Thursdays in June - Extended Hours
Thursday, June 19 - Open until 8 pm
Thursday, June 26 - Open until 8 pm
Enjoy those warm summer nights at the Zoo with extended hours on Twilight Thursdays. The Zoo is open from 9 am to 8 pm for your whole family to enjoy. Dinner specials, live music and activities start at 5 pm. Regular daily admission rates apply. 

King of Feasts - Food & Wine Luau
Saturday, June 21 - 6 to 9 pm
Enjoy this unique gourmet food and wine luau featuring live entertainment, Polynesian dancers, and a silent auction. Enjoy foods from dozens of the finest Sacramento area restaurants and bakeries. Sample premium California wines, beers and spirits in the relaxed and lush setting of the Sacramento Zoo. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

Bring your kids to the Zoo for free on three Wednesdays in July thanks to Wells Fargo! Up to four kids, ages 2-11 will be admitted for free with a paid adult. Bring the entire family to enjoy all-you-can-eat Baskin Robbins Ice Cream and Coca-Cola beverages at the 30th Annual Ice Cream Safari. It's a brain-freezing good time from 4 to 8 pm. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

Deaf Awareness Day
Saturday, September 13 - 10 am to 3 pm
Join us for a special day for our deaf and hard of hearing community sponsored by NorCal Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Zoo will have ASL interpreters on site for the event. There are limited facilities for service animals. Please call (916) 808-5888 in advance.

Memorial for Zoo Director Mary Healy     
Saturday, September 20 - 3 to 5 pm
Join us in celebrating the life and works of the late Zoo Director Mary Healy. After a brief 3 pm ceremony, guests are invited to tour the Zoo, remembering Mary’s impact on it and the community. Open to the public. RSVP by email or call (916) 808-8815 by September 12th.

Zoo Member Preview of Small Wonders of Africa   
Friday, September 26 - 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Sacramento Zoo members get a sneak peak of the new exhibit! No need to RSVP, just show your membership card and Photo ID upon entry. Not a Zoo member but want to attend? Call (916) 808-5888 or visit the membership page to join today!

Red Panda Day
Saturday, September 27 - 10 am to 4 pm
Join us for an interactive and educational event developed to raise awareness about Red Panda conservation. Kids (and adults too!) can become “Red Panda Rangers” after stopping at the various Red Panda Stations and completing the Panda activities. If you became a ranger last year, complete this year’s activities to become a “Junior Forest Guardian!” New this year, a silent auction! Stop by to bid on Red Panda themed artwork, décor, and other keepsakes. Proceeds benefit The Red Panda Network, a conservation group working directly with community-based organizations in Nepal.

Small Wonders of Africa Opening Weekend
Saturday & Sunday, September 27 & 28 - 9 am to 4 pm
Join us during the opening of Small Wonders of Africa and visit new African species including Aardvark, Red-billed Hornbills, Straw-colored Fruit Bats Wolf's Guenon and Crested Guineafowl. Wild Affair
Saturday, October 4 - 5 to 10 pm
The Wild Affair fundraiser offers guests the chance to spend an enchanted evening behind the scenes at the Sacramento Zoo. This annual Gala event includes a delicious full-course gourmet dinner, followed by a silent and live auction with plenty of wine, spirits and endless hors d'oeuvres. Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.

A Future for Cheetahs
Thursday, October 9 - 12 pm
Listen to cheetah expert and director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, Dr. Laurie Marker, as she discusses living in Africa and introduces her new book “A Future for Cheetahs.” Included with Zoo admission.

Boo at the Zoo

Bring the family to the Zoo for a spook-tacular good time.  Play some ghoulish games, create creepy crafts and trick or treat around the lake. It’s a safe and fun Halloween at the Sacramento Zoo.  Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm both days.

Food Drive
November 1 to December 24 - 10 am to 4 pm
Bring a non-perishable food item when you visit the Zoo and receive $1 off your Zoo admission!  Food donations benefit the River City Food Bank. 

Member Appreciation Mornings
Saturdays, November 8, 15, 22, 29 -  9 am  to 10 am
Stroll around the Zoo before we open to the public on four consecutive Saturdays in November! Enjoy free rides on the Zoo Train and Conservation Carousel and a 20% discount in the Zoofari Market gift store until 10 am. Just show your membership card at the entrance.

Military Family Day

In appreciation for our troops, all military personnel, veterans and their families receive a 50% discount  on Zoo admission with a valid military identification card.

AAZK Wreath Sale Fundraiser
Weekends, December 13-21 - 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
Celebrate the holiday season with Zoo-grown homemade wreaths! The local chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers will be at the front of the Zoo during the December weekends selling beautiful wreaths for your home. Proceeds benefit Greater Sac AAZK.

PJ Party Christmas Eve
Wednesday, December 24 - 10 am to 1:30 pm
Celebrate Christmas Eve at the Zoo, and you don't have to change out of your pajamas! That's right, admission is free and we will be in our best pjs. Join us! Zoo closes early at 1:30 pm.
