Sacramento Zoo Fieldtrip Options

Zoo Preview
Our Docents (volunteer educator) lead a half-hour educational, interactive program in the Discovery Room. This seasonal program is available Tuesday-Friday until Mother’s Day. The program is designed for students in grades K-2. The topics and concepts fit well with the Open Court and the Science Framework Content Standards for each grade. The maximum number of students per day for the program is 60. 3 weeks advanced registration is required.

Please note: If the class is larger than 30 students, the class will be split into 2 groups and receive to back-to-back programs.

Start times: (Spring) 9:30 am or 10:15 am, (Fall/winter) 10:15 am

Docent Tour
Are you looking for a little more structure for your fieldtrip? Then our Docent-guided tour is perfect for your group. Come and enjoy an hour and half educational tour with our knowledgeable Docents (volunteer educators). This seasonal program is available Tuesday-Sunday through Mother’s Day, May 11th. The maximum number of students per day for a tour is 40. Tours are available for 1st grade and up with a reservation scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance.

Start times: (Spring) 9:30 am, 10:00 am, 10:30 am and 11:00 am (Fall/winter) 10:30 am, 11:00 am and 11:30 am

Survive and Thrive: An animal adaptation show
This 20 minute, interactive show is a must-see for your K-6th elementary school group. Featuring three Animal Ambassadors, this program takes your students on a worldwide habitat tour to discover how an animal's survival is dependent on their adaptations. This seasonal program is available in the months of March, April, September, and October at 10:00 a.m. The cost of this program is $2.50 per person and is available with a reservation, scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance.  

School groups must have 10 or more attendees to qualify for the discounted admission rate.

Safari of the Senses
Join the members of the Sacramento zoological Society Docent Council for an exciting Zoo experience for the blind and visually-impaired. The Safari of the senses tour features a “please touch” hands-on exploration of animal biofacts, live animals and a guided tour of the Sacramento Zoo! This program lasts approximately 1 ½ hours. You may continue to tour the Zoo on your own after completing the program. 3-week advance reservations are required. Please call the reservation specialist at (916) 808-8814 to schedule your program.
