Spring Class Topics
This spring we will be going on a storybook safari where each week we will read a different children’s story. Our accompanying lessons, crafts and activities will center around the characters in the story. Join us for one class, all six, or anything in between!
February 12 & 13
It’s an Orange Aardvark! by Michael Hall: This is a great book about colors and features one of our newer animals: the Aardvark! This week we will learn all about the colors in the natural world. We will also take a special look at some of the insectivores, like the Aardvark, here at the Zoo.
February 19 & 20
The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle: This book is a favorite for children and adults alike. The main character is a young cricket that has not yet learned to chirp. In this class we will learn about how animals and bugs communicate and what sounds they make!
February 26 & 27
Elephant and Piggie: Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems: This is a great story about playing with friends of all types. In the story Elephant and Piggie want to play catch but their friend the snake has no arms! We will learn about unique animal qualities and take a special look at reptiles.
March 5 & 6
Owl Babies by Martin Waddell: This is great story about three young owls wondering where their mom has gone. (Spoiler alert: Mama Owl is just out gathering food!) This week we will learn all about birds and visit some owls here in the Zoo.
March 12 & 13
999 Tadpoles by Ken Kimura: Can you imagine 999 tadpoles in one small pond? In this story the tadpoles are growing into frogs and need to find a home with more space! We will learn all about amphibians and study the frog life cycle.
March 19 & 20
How to Lose a Lemur by Frann Preston-Gannon: This is a silly story about a little boy being followed by a group of lemurs. We will spend time this week learning all about primates here at the Zoo: monkeys, apes, and of course lemurs!
