Roots & Shoots - Teen Volunteers
The Sacramento Zoo offers two Roots & Shoots volunteer programs throughout the year.

  • Zoo Teens: Ages 13 to 19, August – May
Volunteer with our Education Department to help educate and inspire Sacramento Zoo visitors to become better stewards of the earth by utilizing activity stations. Zoo Teens will gain public speaking skills and confidence by working their way through this multi-layer program.  As Zoo Teens progress through the program they have the opportunity to gain responsibilities and work with different departments at the Sacramento Zoo.  In addition, teens are trained on animal enrichment and will gain experience in planning an enrichment event called I Heart Sacramento Zoo.
  • Camp Counselor: Ages 15 to 19, June – August
Volunteer with our summer camp staff as a Camp Counselor and learn about what it takes to prepare and teach classes for Zoo campers.  You will assist our camp staff in leading songs and games, guide campers through the Zoo on scavenger hunts, and work with teachers and kids to make sure everyone leaves camp with a smile.  You will also assist in one Overnight Safari program and spend the night at the Zoo.

Adult: Ages 18 and up
