Each month a zoo staff member is selected as employee of the month. The individual selected has gone above and beyond their job description and embodies the core values of zoo. He or she leads with animal welfare, obsesses over service, works smart with heart, and ultimately leaves the world a better place.
You probably noticed the recent and impressive visual changes to the zoo, including a new logo and look. As the Marketing Coordinator, Laurel Vincent was tasked with rolling out a complete re-brand, new uniforms, and a fresh look for the zoo. This is not an easy task, but somehow, she made it look easy. Organized and efficient, she worked tirelessly to pull off the rebranding on a tight timeline and ensured that all department needs were met.
Laurel received her B.A. in journalism and public relations from CSU, Chico. Her impressive resume also includes having taught ESL classes in South Korea, experience working in an advertising agency where she learned design principles and account management, and interior design marketing experience where her aesthetic eye was refined.
Laurel has a passion for pugs, glitter, and kayaking in the winter. Her home life includes three cats and two dogs. Her love of animals and supporting nonprofits is what brought her to the Sacramento Zoo.
“I love working here and being a part of the zoo team because we lead with animal welfare and rely on our core values to make everyday impactful for this organization filled with the animals we care for,” said Laurel. “I bring my expertise and background in marketing to an organization I feel passionate about, there’s no better marriage of skill and passion than that.”
Many would be flustered, overwhelmed, and frustrated with the task at hand, but Laurel ensured that each department felt heard and was comfortable with the changes. Her willingness to work on difficult projects and tasks, and see them to completion has impressed everyone.
