There is always something new at the zoo! Here are some things for you to check out during the month of April.
Run like a zebra at ZooZoom!
There’s still time to register for the 38th annual ZooZoom on Sunday, April 15, benefiting the Sacramento Zoo! Choose between 5k, 10k and kids’ fun runs on a flat, fast course that wanders through William Land Park. All registrations include zoo admission for the day. Animal ears and animal print running clothes encouraged! Register today.
Join our Party for the Planet at Earth Fest!
Become a champion for the planet on Saturday, April 21 and enjoy a fun filled day of face painting, crafts, hands-on activities and games all focused on the earth we call home. Get the scoop on some of the zoo’s animals at keeper chats, and wildlife stage shows and be sure to visit the Stuffed Animal Clinic as they examine, diagnose and treat any under-the-weather or injured teddy bears!
Star Wars Day – special ticket required, members get in free
On April 28, you can meet your favorite Star Wars characters and pose for free photos with them throughout the day; just be sure to bring your camera! The animals will join in on the fun with special Star Wars themed enrichment items as visitors enjoy Star Wars themed meals in Kampala Cafe, ride the Conservation Carousel to Star Wars music and much more! A special ticket is required, but Sacramento Zoo members get in free (no ticket required). Buy a membership today and come to Star Wars Day for free!
Meet Diego the chuckwalla!
Get up-close-and-personal with some of our Reptile House residents at the Keeper Chat, Tuesday through Sunday at 10 am. Other species you may meet include the European legless lizard, Western pond turtle, tiger salamander and Madagascar tree boa. Make sure to stop by each time you visit for a chance to meet one of them! See the full Keeper Chat schedule on the Daily Education Programs calendar.
Kampala Café is excited to offer a Meatless Monday entrée option each week that is plant-based and completely vegan. Join us for a healthier and more sustainable meal on your next Monday zoo trip. Visit the Planet Vision website to learn more about the environmental impact of shifting your diet.
Seafood Watch Fridays
As part of Kampala Café’s commitment to sustainability, the daily special on Fridays will be focused on fish. All the specials will be chosen to ensure that they are an ocean-friendly and responsible choice based on the Monterey Bay Aquariums Seafood Watch Program recommendation. Visit the Seafood Watch website to see all the sustainable seafood choices and download the app for a convenient way to make better choices for a healthy ocean.
