Thanks to the hard work of our in-house facilities team, the zoo’s new and improved playground is opening today! We talked to Facilities Project Manager Kris, Facilities Lead Ron and Facilities team member Gary for details.
The playground has been relocated to a larger area next to the Australian Outback and has several brand-new features! These fun new features include a giant ant, ladybug and yellow-legged frog play sculptures generously donated by Cemrock Landscapes, Inc. There are also new viewing devices like a periscope and binoculars that allow children to get a view into the giraffe barn or into the sensory garden. In addition, they have added new thatch shade structures, fencing and a water-saving artificial turf play area – all built and put together in-house! You might even recognize the zoo’s old stone hippo, newly painted by the zoo’s own artist, Anias. The facilities team also installed an ADA ramp surrounded by beautiful new landscaping by the zoo’s horticulture team.
Thank you to our facilities team for all their hard work in the sun!
On your next visit to the zoo, be sure to leave some time to play! The zoo’s got just the area for you!
