Twilight, a rescued western screech owl, was found in critical condition after an encounter with a house cat. Thankfully Twilight was brought to and rehabilitated at the Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center. Due to the permanent injuries, including a fully dilated pupil in one eye, he was non-relesable. Twilight was at Effie Yeaw for several years before finding his forever home at the Sacramento Zoo in June 2010.

If you hear an owl making cute twitter noises at the Sacramento Zoo, have no doubt that it is Twilight vocalizing away. Apart from his favorite hobbies of talking and tap dancing, Twilight carries quite a gentle personality and loves to receive forehead scratches and cuddle with his favorite plushie owl, rumored girlfriend, named Dawn.

Crickets are his go-to meal. Although he often tries to save his leftover morning meals for later, his keepers are sure to offer him fresh food each meal to keep him healthy.

Twilight can be found assisting in all the programs the Sacramento Zoo offers. He does media appearances, ZooMobile programs, and all the on-site shows at the zoo.
