Join the more than 1,500 dedicated individuals who help the zoo each year by doing everything from scooping ice cream to scooping of a different sort... cleaning animal exhibits.       Wild Affair - our gala dinner, tour, and auction.
      Boo at the Zoo - our spook-tacular Halloween event for kids.

Teen Volunteers & Camp Counselors
Ages 13 to 19

Teens, ages 13-19, can explore animal-related careers while gaining work experience.  As part of our summer camp and year-round Zoo Teen programs, teen volunteers help teach children and families about the animals, the environment and conservation.  Check out the Roots & Shoots Zoo Teen page, to sign up. Garden at the front of the ZooGardens Alive
Ages 18 and up
Do you love to garden? Looking for a garden to love? We have several in need of your tender loving care:
      Front Entrance Garden
      Camellia Garden
      Caliornia Zoo's Backyard
      Rose Garden
      African Garden
      Sensory Garden, just to mention a few.

Ages 18 and up

Qualified volunteers work with keeper staff, cleaning, feeding and maintaining the animal exhibits. Volunteers will be working under the direct supervision of zookeepers and will be working in close proximity to animals – no physical contact will be allowed. Application approval and safety orientation required. This program is competitive, and not all applicants will be accepted. See the Keeper-Aide Job Description for more details.

Zoo DocentsDocents
Ages 18 and up
Docents are volunteer educators who provide station talks for zoo visitors.  You'll learn about the exciting animals that live at the zoo and current conservation issues worldwide.  Find out all the details by talking with our course committee. For more information about Docents, visit our Docent page or call (916) 808-5889.
